Guidelines for safe Canadian drinking water have
been established by the Federal Government.

maximum acceptable levels of various substances. The guidelines are to ensure that Canadian
drinking water is: 1.
Safe to drink because it doesn’t contain unacceptable levels of
bacteria (E. coli and coliforms), protozoa (Cryptosporidium and Giardia),
viruses, or chemicals that could cause disease or illness; and 2.
Aesthetically acceptable to consumers because of its lack of taste,
