In simple terms, “osmosis” means “seeping
through.” For example when you put a
tea bag in water, the water seeps into the tea bag and the tea seeps
out. Reverse osmosis means using pressure to force pure
water molecules to seep through a special fabric called a membrane. The pores of the membrane are so tiny that
other larger molecules cannot pass through.
Reverse osmosis was originally developed for
desalination – in other words to turn salt water into fresh water. However, it was later discovered that the
